Predictive dialerYour reps hear "hello" — never the ringing.
Part of the TalkerIQ AI dialer. The predictive dialer calls ahead across several lines, filters out the no-answers, busy signals and voicemails, and hands each live answer to the next free rep. Built for big lists and teams that need to get through them.

How does a predictive dialer work?
A predictive dialer calls more numbers than there are free reps, using the list's answer rate and typical call length, and connects reps only to calls a person answered. TalkerIQ paces dialing to the reps who are free, sets voicemails and no-answers aside for follow-up, and checks calling hours and Do-Not-Call before every dial.

Sound familiar?
We have ten thousand contacts, eight reps and two weeks. Dialing one at a time won't get us there.
When most calls go unanswered, one-at-a-time dialing leaves reps listening to rings for most of their shift. The fix is dialing ahead — carefully, so the people who do answer aren't kept waiting.
Most calls never connect
On a cold or aged list, reps spend far more time waiting through rings and greetings than talking.
The list outlasts the campaign
Renewals, re-engagement, event follow-ups — the deadline arrives before the team gets through the list.
Badly paced dialers burn goodwill
Dial too aggressively and people answer to silence. That hurts your brand and can put you on the wrong side of telemarketing rules.
Managers can't see the floor
Who's talking, who's in wrap-up, how far the list has got — without a live view, problems show up in tomorrow's report.
How it works
From a long list to a steady stream of conversations: what happens on each dial?
What happens on a predictive campaign — and who handles each step.
Load the list and team
Upload the list or pull it from your CRM, set calling windows and assign the reps who will work it.
Your teamCheck, then dial ahead
Each number passes calling-hours, DNC and opt-out checks, then the dialer calls several lines from local numbers.
AutomaticFilter out the noise
No-answers, busy signals and voicemails are set aside for a retry or a follow-up text — reps never hear them.
AutomaticConnect the live ones
A person answers and is connected to the next free rep, whose screen already shows who it is and why you're calling.
Your repsFollow up everyone else
Dispositions trigger callbacks and texts; AI smart retries schedule the next attempt for the ones who didn't pick up.

Predictive when the list is long, power when every call counts: which should you use?
Predictive dialing makes sense when you have several reps on one list and a low answer rate. For smaller teams and high-value calls, the power dialer — one line per rep — means nobody who answers ever waits. And for first touch at scale, AI outbound calling agents can call the list themselves. All three run on the same numbers, contacts and reports.
- Predictive — several lines per rep, live answers only
- Power — one line per rep, next call the moment the last ends
- AI agents — call in parallel, qualify, then hand warm leads to reps
Four ways to work a call list
Rep reviews the record, then clicks to dial.
Next number dials the moment a call ends.
Dials several lines; reps only get live answers.
AI makes the calls, qualifies, then hands hot leads to reps.
Pace responsibly
Dial ahead without leaving people on hold.
Pacing follows how many reps are free right now and how often the list is answering, and slows down as reps get busy, so fewer answered calls wait for someone to pick up. Every number is still checked against the lead's local calling hours, your Do-Not-Call list and opt-outs before it dials.
- Pacing that adapts to available reps and answer rates
- Calling windows in each lead's time zone, attempt limits and cooldowns
- DNC and opt-outs closed across calls and texts

Predictive dialer vs power dialer vs AI agents: what changes for your team?
Three ways to work the same list on TalkerIQ. Most call centers use more than one.
| Power dialer | Predictive dialer | AI voice agents | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Team size it suits | One rep and up | Several reps on one list | Any — AI agents call in parallel |
| List it suits | Warm, researched or high-value | Long lists with low answer rates | First touch, reminders, re-engagement |
| Rep idle time | Rep hears rings and greetings | Lowest — reps only hear live answers | None — reps only take warm transfers |
| Risk to manage | Slower through long lists | Answered calls waiting for a free rep (abandoned calls) | Consent rules for AI-voiced calls |
| What happens to misses | Rep drops a voicemail and moves on | Set aside for smart retries or a text | Logged and retried by AI |
| On TalkerIQ | Power dialer | This page | AI outbound calling |
A campaign day
What does a predictive campaign look like in practice?
A win-back push at a subscription business: 9,000 lapsed customers, eight reps, two weeks. Names are illustrative.
- Dana sets up the campaign
The team lead uploads the lapsed list, sets a 9 AM–8 PM calling window by lead time zone and assigns eight reps.
- The dialer paces itself
Numbers pass DNC and opt-out checks, then the dialer calls ahead on several lines per free rep, from local caller IDs.
- A customer picks up
Jordan answers and is connected to Luis, whose screen shows Jordan's plan, cancel reason and last support ticket.
- Win-back logged
Luis offers a returning-customer plan, sets the "Reactivated" disposition, and a confirmation text goes out automatically.
- Dana checks the wallboard
She sees the Midwest list has stopped answering before lunch and moves reps onto the West Coast contacts instead.
- Misses get a next step
Voicemails and no-answers are queued for smart call retries at the hour this list tends to answer.
What changes
What call-center teams notice on their first campaign.
are all reps hear
Rings, busy signals and voicemail greetings are handled by the dialer, not by your team.
through long lists
Several lines per rep means big lists get worked in days, not weeks.
gets a next step
Unanswered calls are retried at a better time or followed up by text automatically.

Reviewed by the TalkerIQ product team · Updated
What does a predictive dialer actually predict?
A predictive dialer predicts when reps will become free. It dials more numbers than there are free reps, using the list's answer rate and typical call length to estimate when reps will become available. Calls that reach a person are connected to a rep; no-answers, busy signals and voicemails are set aside for follow-up.
When should I use a predictive dialer instead of a power dialer?
Predictive dialing suits teams of several reps working large lists with low answer rates, where most dials would otherwise be wasted. For small teams, researched accounts or high-value calls, a power dialer is usually better, because the rep is already on the line when someone answers.
What is an abandoned call, and how do you limit them?
An abandoned call is one a person answers when no rep is free to take it. In the US, the FTC's Telemarketing Sales Rule limits how often this can happen on sales calls and sets requirements for what the caller must hear. TalkerIQ paces dialing to the reps who are free to keep abandoned calls low; talk to us about how pacing is configured for your campaigns and the rules that apply to you.
Is predictive dialing legal?
Yes, when used within the rules that apply to your calls — for example consent requirements under the TCPA, Do-Not-Call rules, calling-hour limits and abandoned-call limits in the US. TalkerIQ enforces calling windows, DNC lists and opt-outs, but you remain responsible for consent and compliance.
Can AI agents work alongside the predictive dialer?
Yes. Many teams use AI agents for first-touch and retry calls, AI SMS for replies, and the predictive dialer for reps working the warmest part of the list — all on the same contacts and reports.
Do reps need special hardware?
No. Reps work from a browser with a headset or the TalkerIQ desktop app, using your existing TalkerIQ numbers.
How many reps do you need to use a predictive dialer?
There is no hard minimum, but predictive dialing works best with several reps on the same list, because pacing depends on reps becoming free at a steady rate. With one or two reps, a power dialer is usually the better choice.
What happens to voicemails and no-answers on a predictive dialer?
On the TalkerIQ predictive dialer, no-answers, busy signals and voicemail greetings never reach a rep. They are logged on the contact and handed to smart retries or a follow-up text, inside your attempt limits and calling windows.
