How do I port my business phone number?
To port a business phone number, you request the move with your new provider, sign a letter of authorization (LOA) and confirm account details from your current carrier. With TalkerIQ you submit this online, start on a temporary number the same day, and your calls keep ringing on the old provider until the switch completes.

Sound familiar?
We've wanted to leave our old phone provider for two years. We just couldn't risk losing the number.
Porting has a reputation for lost calls and paperwork ping-pong. It doesn't have to.
Fear of a dead line on switch day
One day of missed calls can cost more than a year of phone bills.
Rejected port requests
A mismatched account number or address sends you back to square one, weeks later.
No idea what's happening
Old carriers aren't motivated to help you leave, and nobody tells you the status.

Questions about porting

Reviewed by the TalkerIQ product team · Updated
How long does porting take?
It depends on your current carrier and the number type. Simple ports of local numbers are usually quicker than toll-free or large multi-number ports. We give you a target date once the carrier accepts the request.
Will my phones stop working during the port?
No. Your numbers keep working on your current provider until the port completes, and you can use a temporary TalkerIQ number in the meantime.
What do I need to start a port?
A recent bill or account details from your current provider (account number, PIN if any, service address) and a signed letter of authorization, which you can sign online.
Can I port numbers from a mobile carrier?
In most cases, yes — business numbers on mobile plans can usually be ported. We'll check eligibility before submitting.
Should I cancel my old service first?
No — cancelling first can release the number. Keep your old service active until the port completes.
Can I port a toll-free number?
Yes. Toll-free numbers can be ported to TalkerIQ along with local numbers. Toll-free ports follow a separate carrier process, so they can take longer than local ports.
Can I port only some of my numbers?
Yes. You can port one number or many, and keep others with your current provider until you're ready. Each number keeps its own routing on TalkerIQ.
What happens to my text messages after porting?
Once the number is on TalkerIQ and registered for business texting, you can send and receive SMS and MMS from it in the shared team inbox and apps.
